A Day

It was just another day in the life of Maya. Morning. Alarm ringing. Microwave beeping. Car honking.Traffic fuming.Computer hanging. Deadlines.Business lunch.Coffee gossip. Phone calls...

As she stepped out of the office in the evening, she noticed that the streets were washed by the rain which had left imprints of brown puddles. But the sun was now back, sending rays of light which made her shadow look like she was walking on stilts. And then she saw a faint glimmer of a rainbow in the distant horizon which seemed to have appeared exclusively for her, because no one else was paying any attention to it.It was as if it was visible only to her eyes. And without any unexplainable reason, she wanted to take a brush and paint the entire scene- the puddles, the water spewing trees, the sun glistening with drops of rain and her rainbow.

She wanted to 'perpetuate the moment in art'.And smiled mildly when she remembered that the phrase belonged to Keats.

She drove her car with a purpose towards home, wanting to dust the canvas on the attic, unearth her paint brush and started wondering if she might have forgotten how to paint. The journey through this train of thought ended when she stepped home.

The answering machine greeted her with the hectic schedule for tomorrow. And ofcourse, there was dinner to be made. And then the laundry to be done if she needed clean socks the next day. When she was done with everything and was in the midst of boiling milk for coffee, her tryst with the rainbow, the desire to paint, all seemed like a distant, silly dream.

Night. Laundry. Television news. Friendly dog. Overfriendly men.Music. Unfinished file. Typing in the laptop. E mails......

Sleep.Morning.Alarm ringing. Microwave beeping.......

And so.., life continued.......................

funny how our lives, our choices turn around and trap us. escape is a dream we show ourselves to stay sane. and the dream breaks to the ringing of alarm clocks....

@kray..and it is also funny how day dreaming can almost make one live in a world of make-believe:)

there a difference between wishing to and wanting to... you do what you want to, Maya did, she did watch Television news.

Maya was trapped in her daily routine of things , from which she was afraid to break out, was what I meant..
