The Spectator

Cutting a long story short....
---------------------------

He stood looking at his chilled wine glass sweating profusely. There were people dressed in expensive clothes milling all around him. He was standing in the corner of the room which was spared by the festive light of the chandelier. He looked at a striking woman striking a meaningless and polite conversation with the politician guy. Building strings for future pulling. He looked at the sauve man holding a group of women in rapt attention with his not so amusing stories. Building his ego taller than him. He looked at the couple enraptured in each other's arms. He wondered if it was for tonight or eternity.

His eyes wanting a breath, he came outside and closed his eyes. When he opened it, his eyes fell on a beggar who was looking at the people going by, trying to guage their kindness and intentions at that moment. It humbled him to realise that there was not much difference between him and the beggar.

when it comes down to that..aren't we all beggars ???? dont we all need that single nod of head from certain people around us before we wear a new dress, try a new hairstyle or take up a new line of work !!! i guess we all crave for those opinions...no matter how many "i-dont-care"s adorn our vocab :))

@ks..the story is more false than true:) so dont u worry..

@neelam..i am sure even that ' i dont care' is because other people would think it is cool that they don't care!;)so beggars for a lot of things - attention, comfort and company..!

Everyone is a beggar. Anyone who begs is a beggar and so everyone is a beggar. If the suave man was begging for attention then the couple were begging to be with each other. Maybe this action was just for that slice in time and again....maybe it was not. What is unfortunate is that beggars sitting out in the cold looking at passers by are the obvious kind. The kind that needs to pre and post-conditions. A kind that needs no introduction and no bottomlines. I envy that about them.

Nicely portrayed.
